Sam and his dog Arty were walking past the trains in the falling stream of snow, it was pretty cold and chilly the whole year. Sam was clothed with the neatknitted scarf and the pullover from his grandmother, he loved his grandmother as much as Arty loved the warm knitted shirt on him. With the short gloves his fingers were cold as the icy limunades he used to make in the stand in front of his house in the hot summer. He drowned his hands in his pocket to check the route, from the map which they got from the random man in the city of Pernius who turned out to be his professor.
On the map, there was the railroad he was walking by with Arty, the professor pointed out the location he should be targeting for, it was very close, just above the hills. When he should walk up the hill he should see the lining factories and the headquarters of the Ceno corporation where he could gain the information on her sister's death.
Long years ago, on a sunny day when Arty was yet little, Sam was selling lemonades in the stand, he was so much into it, the passer by-ers were sure of his success in some ways when he grows up. Sam proud of it, couldn't hear his sister's words. The day after, his sister Mandy would have a ballet performance in the grand theatre. With the parents busy in the developing world and her loving grandmother with whom she was the most close to passed away a year ago, Sam was supposed to be there to watch Mandy perform what she enjoys.
The next morning, Sam was deep in his dreams where he was catching giant fishes in an imaginary lake, the rope was pulling harder and harder, and in the next moment, he woke up. There was no one in the house. He was preparing his lemonade stand and waiting and waiting. Mandy didn't come back that day.
He hadn't seen Mandy from then, until the day, when the news came out, that a little blonde girl was kidnapped and killed while she was testing some new modified types of water that were supposed to bring humanity to a balance. Sam was so terrified, and couldn't believe what he did, he believed it all to be his fault, as little as he was, he spent years to find out the truth behind his sister's death.
Sam and Arty managed to climb up the hills in the wretched cold of the winter, he saw smoke, and more smoke. The air was disgusted with tests, he was close to his life's goal, he could finally get closer to Mandy.
They were walking past the factories made from cold materials and that were making the noises he always was afraid of. The workers were masked in white uniforms and were shocked to see Sam and Arty who were not part of the organization. Guards were in black uniforms, and were chasing Sam and Arty, when they though they were at safe, it all turned black suddenly.
In a dark room they were imprisoned, their clothes were changed, at least it was not cold anymore. Sam and Arty found out that they were imprisoned, and they couldn't escape by themselves. Flashes of memory passed through Sam, thinking of his life and his guilt for his sister, a precious thing of his, which he realized only when it was too late. Suddenly, there were shades approaching, one had a long hair and there were two big ones besides it.
Sam couldn't believe what he was seeing, it was Mandy. Her blonde hair still the same despite the environment. Tears flowed on Sam's cheek with mixed emotions. He couldn't utter a single word. His imaginations created unbelievable possibilities of her living, the report said that she was dead, and there she stood, as alive as the two guards next to her. There was something strange.
She couldn't recognize him.
The guards uttered silent words between themselves and moved on. Sam screamed for her, but the footsteps didn't stop. It was true that she didn't see him for many years, but that wasn't the reason of her not recognizing Sam. A man from the next cell, told Sam that she has been brainwashed, just as numerous other girls. It was true that many girls were kidnapped years ago, but the mystery was never solved.
A smile appeared on Sam's face, he was happy that she was alive. But the smile didn't last. The man from the siding cell told him to smile while he can, as prisoners will all be wiped out the next day.
There was no way they could escape the place, his life flashed in his eyes, and he was grateful again that his sister was alive, at least that. Something happened.
Mandy was a worker in the Ceno corporation, she was responsible for the prisoners, and after the meeting with her brother and Arty, she was supposed to check over prisoner's clothes to find conspicious information. The sight of the neat-knitted stuff knocked her head. She slowly regained her memories, her weekend times with her grandma, pointless discussions besides the fire which were the best times of her's.
She remembered the last ballet performance and there, the lemonade stand of her brother. Without a single thought, she ran to Sam and Arty. Tears of joy flowed on their cheeks, with their parents gone, they were the only family that was left. Sam took the opportunity to tell her how he felt all those years, and especially about his guilt of him not comming to her ballet performance. Mandy told him that it doesn't matter anymore and that they can start anew, build a home and finally be a happy family that cares for each other.
The guards saw that something was not right. And found out that she regained the memories and caught Mandy at put her into the jail as well.
Sam asked Mandy if there is any way to escape the place as she was working there, but there was no hope but that there is no way to worry and repeated her father’s words, that those who irritate nature will be punished and the corporation was the core of the move. They stood up all night and in the next day, the earth started shaking, and the rain pouring as the ocean turned upside down, it was a nightmare, and it really seemed that it ended. But they were grateful of the reunion; it was all they were looking for, on being together.
The place started to crash and even the workers couldn’t escape, the family closed their eyes with their hands together as it all crashed.
The sun shone bright, as did Sam’s eyes, he couldn’t believe what happened. He stood up and went downstairs and saw mom and dad breakfasting as Mandy was showing off in the ballerina costume.
